The Rock Cycle- Story
This is the story about a rock, but not just any rock. This rocks name is Sandy. Sandy is a sedimentary rock made up of numerous sediments that found its way together through thousands of years of compaction and cementation as well as the process of sedimentation. Sandy is a beautiful red sandstone but she was growing tired of the life she was living. She was searching for something new, new versions of herself.
Sandy decided it was time to go on an adventure that is common for other rocks fellows like her to go on, the rock cycle.
Sandy was ready to take on the heat and pressure and push herself to new limits. She was ready to become a Metamorphic rock! Sandy made her way underground and felt the pressure like no other. After thousands of years, Sandy was now a beautiful Slate metamorphic rock! Due to the geologic uplift and erosion of the soil and rock above Sandy, she is now exposed to weathering and starts to break down into sediments.
From the exposure and uplift and plenty of time, Sandy is ready to make her next step into her rock cycle! Sandy is exposed to so much heat, she starts melting, eventually made her way into the nearby magma flow. Sandy for years just relaxed in the magma flow and stayed in her melted state until one day, she decided she had enough of the heat and wanted to cool down.
Sandy went through the process of cooling and solidification. She knew she was ready to move forward and with the process of transportation, Sandy became an Igneous Rock! Sandy went through crystallization when her magma cooled, she became a beautiful extrusive Scoria rock! Sandy met a friend named Gabby, she is a intrusive Granite that is also a Igneous rock! Gabby showed Sandy all the cool places to hang out while she was enjoying her time as an igneous rock. Sandy cooled off for years before she started missing her true state, being a sedimentary rock. She decided to start making her journey home.
Through erosion, deposition, and lithification Sandy made her way home into a sedimentary rock once again. Only this time, she looks a little different than before, through this cycle, she is now a gorgeous Shale Sedimentary Rock! Sandy loved going on this journey of the Rock Cycle, she learned so much about how to become other rocks.
