Minerals Lab!

 Minerals are the new section we are unwrapping! Personally it is the section I am most looking forward to. First we learned what makes up a mineral. It needs to be naturally occuring, inorganic solid, internal molecular structure, define chemical composition. A rock is a solid aggregate of the minerals.

There are ways to identify a mineral by its streak, its hardness, color, cleavage, odor, acid reaction test, magnetic or not. Here below I will add pictures of the lab we completed in class. We were given a box of rocks and ask to identify the minerals using what we know and our supply box. 

In the last picture, you can see that this rock reacts to acid! How cool is that?! I had a lot of fun with this lab and I am learning with experience, the rock identification process will get easier :)
