Making a crystal!!
To start out our chapter one, rocks and minerals section, we are asked to make some crystals!! I am very excited about this! I chose to try and make a crystal out of salt. I took many pictures along the way. After this experiment, I think I will try again but with a different method.
Step one: I started out with a cup of water and a few tablespoons of kosher salt. I heated it up until the water was boiling.
Step two: I poured the boiling salt and water mixture into a glass jar
Step three: I tied a piece of shoelace around a wooden skewer and placed onto the jar. The shoelace was in the water mixer.
Step four: I placed the jar somewhere dry and out of the way to set for a few days.
The results were not what I was expecting but I do appreciate the fact that some crystals started to form around the dry parts of the shoelace. I was not expecting that, I figured the crystals would take place in the water.
