5 Myths - Life, Earth and the Beginning of Everything

 Life, the Universe, and Everything.

1. The Chinese believe the beginning of everything came from a huge egg that contained a vast amount of chaos. Inside the egg the rage kept forming a yin-and yang form of chaos. From the egg it finally released and out came a dragon. The dragon's name was Pan-gu. The yin and yang swirled around the dragon and then the Earth started to take its form. Everyday as Pan-gu grew, so did the mountains and the sky and land flattened. Pan-gu overtime created the earth but there were no people. As Pan-gu grew older and died, he became one with the mountains. From his death a half dragon goddess was born named Nuwa. She created little figures out of clay and mud and that then turned into humans! She continued to create more humans as well as some of the greatest warriors. She then was known as the mother of all humans.

This is an example of

  • Creation by the splitting or ordering of a primordial unity such as the cracking of a cosmic egg or a bringing order from chaos

2. The Inca creation believed that beginning of life came from the love of the moon and the sun. The sun's name was Pachacamac and the moons was her lover. The moon got lonely of being the only thing in the sky so he created the stars and planets. Together they ruled the heavens and earth. Pachacamac created the first humans out of stone. They were said to be pitiful creatures. They created a son to help the humans with plowing and surviving and a daughter to teach the women how to weave and prepare food. They decided Inca is where the first sun temple should be, from there the sun and the moon took off to teach other parts of the earth.

This is an example of

  • Creation ex nihilo in which the creation is through the thought, word, dream or bodily secretions of a divine being

3. The Greeks believed the beginning of everything is a wild mythical journey between several greek gods and goddesses. The beginning starts with the chaos that birthed Gaia- the earth goddess. She then gave birth to Uranus- the sky. They became the first husband and wife. Together they had many children, most of them terrifying, including cyclops. Uranus was scared of this children and kept them deep beneath the earth. This made Gaia very sad because she loved her kids no matter what. This led her to plot killing her husband. She did give birth to some normal gods and goddesses, one special one named Kronos who was given instructions to kill his dad with a rock once he came down from the sky and rested for the night. He ended up killing his father and becoming the new king of the sky. He married an earth goddess named rhea and together they had many children. Khronos created the first race of humans called the golden age. Khronos was terrified of his children and the potential that one day one of them could over throw him, therefore he ate all his children. This terrified Rhea and she ended up having a child named Zeus in secret with the help of Gaia. He later grew up and became so strong and released all the creatures below the earth that are Kronos siblings. This lead to an overthrow of Khronos and Zeus was the new ruler. Zeus ended up creating many many more humans as well as other gods and goddesses.

  • Emergence myths in which progenitors pass through a series of worlds and metamorphoses until reaching the present world

4. The Iroquois creation believed that before life was created there was a sky world that sat about the high waters. One day the light was taken from the sky and things went dark. The sky women fell through the hole that the light once was, a hawk caught her but she was much to heavy for him. The women was caught by a large sea turtle who offered her a place to live. She asked all the creatures of the water to help find earth. The only creature that could dive deep enough was the muskrat. The muskrat would dive down and grab earth for her and she would place it on the turtles back. She would then walk in circles on the turtle and the turtle began to grow. This continued until the turtle was the size of Earth that we know today! Together the sky woman and the animals created mountains and lakes and plains and forest. The woman bore children who helped create the sun and the moon as well as fish and other living beings. She gave birth to twin boys and one was evil. They were always at war.

This is an example of

  • Earth diver creation in which a diver, usually a bird or amphibian sent by a creator, plunges to the seabed through a primordial ocean to bring up sand or mud which develops into a terrestrial world

5. The celtic creation of life starts with Donn and Danu, a god and goddess. They were stuck in love with each other. Eventually they bore two boys and they were stuck inside their parents and couldn't get out. One of the boys, Brian decided he needed to do something or else him and his brother would not survive. Brian cut his father into 9 pieces, this lead his mom, Danu to cry. She became known as the waters of heaven. The waters washed away each part of Donn, creating the skys, clouds, sun, moon, stones and winds. The blood of Donn and the tears of Danu created the oceans. Two acorns fell from the sky and they became a reincarnation of Donn into an Oak tree. Don became the god of the otherworld where Danu became the goddess of heaven, their love still continues even though they are not close to each other.

Construction of a valid explanation as to why the big bang theory is the reasoning for the beginning of it all!
In short, the big bang is the astronomers way of explaining how everything came to be. It started with the idea that the universe is a single point and it has grew and expanded to be the size as it is right now. Some reasoning to back up the theory is hubble's discovery in the 1920's of a relationship between a galaxy's distance from earth and its speed, also the discovery in 1960's of cosmic microwave background radiation. I have always heard of the Big bang theory but it never made sense to me until now. I believe that this is the most logical explanation of the big known- how did we come to be?
