So, what does an accurate model of the solar system look like??

In class we were asked if this model of the solar system looks accurate or if it is deceiving... I instantly thought, well yes the planets are in the right order and the bigger planets do indeed look bigger but I don't think that that planets are actually that close together. Turns out I am right, in fact the planets are very very far from each other.

Professor Klett showed us a great way to help us understand just how far these planets are from the sun. We found how far away each planet was away in meters from the sun. Then each person was assigned a planet and some facts about it. With some string and a marker and A LOT of space, we were able to capture the idea of how far away these planets were from the sun!! I would love to do this project when I have my own classroom, especially if we can be outside!!

I really enjoy how many different experiments and visual models Professor Klett has showed us.
